Facts About Florida Sea Turtles 

• The Loggerhead and the Green Sea Turtle nest in Florida
• The most common sea turtle in Florida is the Loggerhead Turtle  (It got its name from its gigantic head)
• The Green Sea Turtle is named for its green body fat and it is a vegetarian (just like my mom) :)
• 80% of all Loggerhead turtles in the world are born on Florida beaches
• Sea Turtles spend their lives in the ocean except when the female comes ashore to lay her eggs
• Some female turtles take 30 years to mature enough to lay her eggs
• Adult females will only nest every 2-3 years.  Once she lays her eggs, she never returns.
• Less than 1 of 10,000 hatchlings survive to adulthood
• The average lifespan of a sea turtle that survives to adulthood is 60 years
• Hatchlings weigh less than 1 ounce and are only 2 inches long
• Adults can grow to over 3 feet long and can weigh up to 400 pounds
